- «Slap» se usa más frecuentemente cuando quien golpea es una mujer y lo hace porque un adulto la agrede verbal o físicamente. Puede ser en cualquier parte del cuerpo
- «Smack» se usa mucho con niños y no sólo se refiere a pegar con la mano abierta. También podría ser un coscorrón y en cualquier parte del cuerpo.
Sin embargo, según el lugar ambas se puede intercambiar.
Examples:
-The man made a rude comment so the woman slapped him
-He gave the dog a smack when it misbehaved
-The incompetent waiter made me want to smack him in his face
-You naughty boy, if you do that again I’ll smack you!
-She slapped Paul when she found out he had been cheating on her.
